Air Safety

Safety Management

We have previously advised airline operators on their obligation to form a Safety Management System (SMS) in their organisation before January 2009. However we have been a long-term advocate of such systems regardless of the business or the regulatory pressures surrounding the operation.

Whether an AOC Operator, Non-AOC Operator, Flying Club or Aerodrome, it is good practice to have such a system in place. The complexity and breadth will clearly vary according to scale and type of operation; however even the most basic organisation can have in place a system of safety management. Every organisation emphasises that safety is placed above all else; an SMS is the chance to prove it, and live it.

We are passionate about Air Safety, and have built-up a complex knowledge in this subject area, from accident investigation and case studies, through to complex accident causation modeling.

We are keen to ensure that Aviation is as safe as it can possibly be. fly.sba can consult with your organisation on running a successful SMS, with buy-in throughout the organisation and an on-going commitment to safety. We assist in the creation of Safety Manuals and can help your organisation by providing guides to best practice and keeping you informed on safety developments.

Our knowledge and expertise in the field of Air Safety is qualified by participations in Aviation Safety courses run by Loughborough and Cranfield Universities, constant research into air safety theory and best-practice; the contribution of articles and research; and membership of the International and European Societies of Air Safety Investigators (ESASI/ISASI).

Reporting Systems

AOC operators are aware of the need for clearly defined reporting procedures, in order to define the lines of communication in the event of accidents or incidents. Such guidelines are provided within EU-OPS, and also form a major part if the SMS.

As well as internal reporting, external reports must be submitted in the form of Mandatory Occurence Reports and Air Safety Reports. fly.sba can advise your organisation on the creation of an effective system for tracking and recording the dissemination of such information, as well as advising on how an air safety department can deal with open- ASR's/MORs with a view to making changes where necessary in the organisation. Effective tracking and resolving of open cases is a clear requirement of the Authority, and follow-up actions post-accident/incident must be communicated.
